    1619 PROJECT

In August 2019, the New York Times launched The 1619 Project on the 400th anniversary of the arrival of the first enslaved Africans to Jamestown. Its stated goal was “to reframe the country’s history by placing the consequences of slavery and the contributions of black Americans at the very center of our national narrative.” It's a revisionist project, politically motivated as part of the American "Business Left" use of identity politics to obfuscate socialist programs like universal healthcare. The 1619 Project argues that America was founded upon slavery and that white supremacy defines every aspect of American public life today.
