Britain’s transition period will end at 11pm on Thursday, after parliament voted through the prime minister’s post-Brexit trade deal on Wednesday. The UK will no longer be affected by the EU’s freedom of movement rules, meaning among other things that millions will lose the automatic right to work in the EU’s 27 member states.
Affected by? That’s a whole world of shitbrain.
The UK doesn’t exist as a real entity.
Freedoms don’t affect, by existing. They aren’ty by not existing. We don’t say we’re affected by being able to move around in the world. We are affected by borders patrolled by guards with guns and attack dogs. The UK was in fact NOT affected by freedom of movement rules but will soon BE affected by losing free movement, i.e. facing borders.
It’s fucked up the Guardian can think of freedom of movement affecting the UK – do you mean all the evil brown people? The Polish workers? – and not that ending free movement isn’t the real-world change that’ll be affecting individuals (which do exist, unlike countries).
