The over-weaning vanity socialism destroying cities like New York and Los Angeles and San Francisco is created by the hypocrisy of the Left arguing promised land to the working classes – which is always a very large demographic in any large city – but never delivering. Instead, of curtailing big business for tax revenue or working to regulatory codes, they go after easier targets like small businesses, cannibalizing these petit-bourgeois then throwing bones to the poorest in their supporter base. Meanwhile, the city as a whole is slowly eroded of its best and brightest and most dynamic energy – these tend to be the most psychogeographically mobile, least trapped; and least patient once the gig is up. Ironically, most places the best and the brightest are a sizeable percentage of the wealth generators – often rich themselves – so by driving away, the city-society loses on many levels both cultural and economic.
