It looks like planets go around stars and stars go around galaxies. And in three dimensional Newtonian space so they do. This is not the whole story, though. The universe moves in four dimensions, because Time is a constant too. Einstein’s eureka moment was understanding Newtonian mechanics in the universe of Spacetime. Circular orbits are made by gravity as gradually decreasing circles in a three dimensional sense but this is not the reality of gravity in the universe.

Objects move in straight lines through Spacetime. Circle plus time equals straight line from A to B, gravity is not a electromagnetic or nuclear force but a displacement in Space – the footprint of matter – creating a curve in Spacetime towards the centre (i.e. deepest) point. All matter is affected once it encounters the edge of the curved space, captured if no other forces propel it beyond the curved space and once captured matter moves in a straight time through Spacetime to the centre.

This movement plays out on Earth as things falling to the ground if dropped from a height.

But gravity plays out across Spacetime everywhere in the universe. It is the tie that binds. It is the motor driving detectable matter throughout interstellar and intergalactic Space.

Our Local Group of galaxies is falling towards the gravity-centre of Laniakea.

The Milky Way is falling towards Andromeda.

The Sun is falling towards the centre of our galaxy.

The Earth is falling towards the centre of the Sun.

Everything on our planet is falling towards the centre of the Earth.

People have mass too. People curve space. The curve is usually so small it’s irrelevant versus the curve made by Earth.

We talk about falling in love and being bound by promises or in matrimony. Maybe this is describing a reality more accurately than mere metaphor.

Gravity is a fact, a reality nothing can ignore, escape becomes impossible once close enough to the singularity.

At the singularity, the curve in Space becomes infinite, it is the end of the straight line through Spacetime. Nothing escapes. Physics breaks down. Does everything become one again, is the infinite curve at last a hole in Spacetime? It could lead to nowhere or the beginning of time, it could be the echo of dark energy or the converging fuel of inflation and the big bang..!

Everything falls in a straight line through Spacetime. Observing the falling is limited by relativity. It’s only on Earth we see things falling in straight lines because we are falling along the same line in Spacetime. Elsewhere we see gravity’s effect relative to our subjective observation point, different line, Space and Time separate, we see three dimensional reality: straight lines in Spacetime become circles and orbits in Space.

Oh and let’s not forget the probably spurious but nicely poetic quantum entanglement. Imagine the entangled starting in the supernova that made the elements in our bodies, the very neurofabric of who we are. But since the supernova chaos, worlds had to form, chemistry needed the eons to do what was very unlikely, tangled atoms would be separated far and wide. Gravity brings some together. In rocks. In oceans. In swirling gas giants. Billions years further down the line, atoms into molecules into cells into neurons and synapses. Consciousness. People. And yet one person can be drawn to another, just one, in an inexplicable way. Maybe it’s the supernova elements finally coming close enough, in the strange bodies of two, to become entangled active again. Gravity is gravity but here’s the greater force, once it’s in play, drawing together with an intensity that’s the manifestation of love and passion such as poets and songs try to embody.

“The time for petty politics is past: the very next century will bring with it the struggle for mastery over the whole earth.”

Nietzsche’s work 1886 predicted the core struggle, but let it be an object lesson in trying to see the future that even if the fundamental battle is fought as Nietzsche had raved, who on Earth could’ve expected the manner of the fight?

ego individual v superego collective brain types

ideology and independence v market AI and utilitarian “innovation”

in context of post-2009 corporate global society v post-1929 Ubermensch/Untermensch national identity society.

The 30s was the last phase of public faith in kings and heroes (Hitler, Churchill, Roosevelt, good guys and villains) the post WW2 the torch passing to elected reps and corporate professionals, Thatcher Reagan try and fail to place individuals in the mix driven by self interest to offset corporate hegemony, Blair and Clinton try a softer more humane self interest i.e. global neoliberalism. All the while, people die but corporations are immortalb and their workers come and go but the companies grow. By 2009 there’s the inevitable bust on the back of the neoliberal boom, showing its rotten core. Post 2009 corporate big money, expecting to get slapped like in 1930s, actually get off Scott free. Too big to fail. It’s only to be expected the market will drive big business to push its limits: bailouts, austerity, IMF power, electorate easily made racist, etc. Human rights at risk, global politics made a reality show which is more true given politicians paid actors anyway, brazen media propaganda. Comes full circle to the poles individual v collective, ideology v market agnosticism. Collective is market simpatico, reciprocal relationship shared goals superego types. Individual is market unpredictable, antithetical relationship often in opposition to groupthink. Experts are elitism. This is inevitably a minority. Mechanics matter where ideologies recede. Mechanics plus AI reduces need for elite humans. There’s a tipping point here and it won’t be a surprise if the market phases out individuals in favour of stable collectives. Market turns against free individuals, majority people will concur, society adjusts to reflect public opinion with the goal of groupthink (market AI decision) achieved with all the perfect patience of an immortal intelligence and the soft stability of a minutely responsive corporate free market. Give it 100 years and everyone will be no more than their tribe. Far left identity politics is conflicted and corrosive in 2018 but when the ego individual are bred out, the tribal ethnic national whatever badges will be the intuitively “normal’ way people are described, defined and define themselves.

O brave new world! Who’s to say this isn’t a better future? Sure it’s bad for the individuals and the libertarians but so few people are TRULY free, per libertarian vote share. If the greatest happiness for the greater number is achieved and the removal of unhappiness is done without harming those few who’re causing it and will breed its continuation, who’s to say no? Certainly no actual happy human being a century hence and it’s a bit conceited to presume to condemn this future utopia based on soon to be obsolete preferences that do nothing to better the majority of human beings and have been superseded by technology and mature market forces, directed with stable utility by ageless corporate governments.

Climate change might derail this, if long sighted unprofitable is necessary to keep the planet from ecological disaster. Trouble is big business deals in material reality and can’t work to vague faraway possibilities that simply cost money, market share and risk recession. The people aren’t expert and can’t see the future either so reassuring stories will keep them from working up the market forces needed to drive a solution. Perhaps this will be fine. The market doesn’t much care about environmental disaster – one man’s loss is another man’s opportunity. When there’s profit in the solution to climate change, the world will be driven to find one; if it exists. If it doesn’t, by then, homo sapiens as a species will be in trouble.

*I’d really like to expunge this long article/essay* laying down the whole Nietzsche Beyond Good and Evil thru 1929 and US/German dichotomy – yet both individual creative in origin New Deal vs Fascism – thru the failure of appeasement to placate market forces and bring the immortal corporations to heel (Thatcherite selfish dog eat dog, Clinton/Blair neoliberalism, etc) – to 2009 and mature market forces, big business, corporations preparing patiently since Bretton Woods (1945), the ‘too big to fail’ whimper of government as it was brought to heel, no punishment for big business, cost of 2009 paid by austerity that didn’t even need to be imposed on willing slave-voters. Individual ego-first is to be marginalised then bred out. Collective superego groupthink happiness is the majority, in the referendum of the market, which they control by being innately simpatico with it – predictable demographic behaviour. Fuck unpredictable individuals! Utopia means bye-bye individualism (the cause of unhappiness) but it’ll be done softly and without harm, responsive artificial intelligent subtlety of the market. Who are we, the individuals who’ll be obsolete, to condemn a near future where the world’s happy, productive, still progressing, identity politics so conflicted and corrosive today is as prescient as Nietzsche: in the free market collective citizen future identity (ethnicity, nationality, gender, orientation, social history, grouprank, etc) is defined by and is defining of any tribe member.
